From the Golden Temple – Marilyn

December 31st, 2009 by sacredtraveller

This morning we went to the Golden Temple at Amritsar and participated in the re-installing of their sacred scriptures, (their Holy Book) at dawn. Thousands of people come every day to “wake up the book” in the morning and “put it to bed” at night.

I was moved to tears by the palpable presence of Spirit in the place and the people. We were the only westerners among thousands of Punjabis who were gracious, welcoming, and accepting of our presence. Meditating and listening to the chanting and the blowing of the horn announcing the scriptures, I was reminded of visiting Jewish synagogues on holy days and thought of the muezzin calling Muslims to prayer.

I was struck again in the most foreign and exotic of places how much more unites than divides us.
