Today we visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar. I have rarely seen a place of greater beauty or poetry. As I understand it, the Sikh’s became great warriors after being persecuted by the Moguls. Greatly outnumbered, they evolved as elite and fierce fighters to prevent the moguls from killing them or converting them. We also learned that the warriors are known for their sweetness, their mercy, and their protection of what matters.
During our visit of the temple, our warrior guide told us that the highest Muslim holy man was brought to the Golden Temple to lay the foundation stone. I was touched to hear how the Sikhs demonstrate with such powerful deeds their reverence for all religions, particularly after all the battles with the moguls.
